Film Works: A One-Day Student Film Challenge
Friday, November 13 · Screening at The Bank Art House, 22 King Street, Welland · 7:00pm
From the page to the screen in one day.
Film Works is a one-day filmmaking challenge for high school students, presented as part of the Mighty Niagara Film Fest. Five teams of six students from Welland Centennial Secondary School and E.L. Crosley Secondary School will each bring an original script, written by students in the classroom, to life on screen.
Each team gets its script a few days before the challenge. They’ll use that time to prepare: breaking down scenes, planning shots, casting roles, and getting ready for production. Then on November 13, the clock starts. Each team has one day to shoot and edit a finished short film.
Each team works with a filmmaking mentor from the Niagara community. The mentors offer guidance and on-set experience, but the performances, the camera work and the final cut belong to the students.
The finished films premiere that same evening at The Bank Art House in downtown Welland as a part of the Mighty Niagara Film Festival. Come see what Niagara’s next generation of filmmakers can do in a single day, and celebrate the students who made it happen.
Film Works is organized by Michael Krasnay and Lisa Pomeroy, educators from the District School Board of Niagara, in partnership with the Niagara Artists Centre and the Mighty Niagara Film Fest.
